A call for the coalition Government to relax parts of the smoking ban is being supported by two of its Bradford MPs. Bradford East MP David Ward and Shipley MP Philip Davies are backing efforts by the Working Men’s Club and Institute Union and the Save Our Pubs and Clubs Campaign for a review, following decisions in Denmark and Holland to allow smoking areas in some premises.

'Publicans appeal for the return of smoking' featured quotes from Paul Waterson, president of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association (SLTA), plus the information that "Recent research by the Save Our Pubs and Clubs campaign showed that 11.1% of pubs north of the border had closed their doors since the ban. There were 6,610 operating pubs in Scotland before the ban. This fell to 5,873 within four years."

More than 700 pubs in Scotland have closed since the smoking ban was introduced, according to a new report. Research commissioned by the Save Our Pubs and Clubs campaign showed that 11.1% of pubs north of the border had shut over the past four years.
